Our Beginnings were humble
The Iloilo City Eye Consultants, Inc., better known as The Eye City-Iloilo, was founded in 2009 when a group of four subspecialty ophthalmologists decided to merge their individual practices and form a group practice. The concept of group practice started in the United States in the 1800s as a response to the proliferation of medical specialization which made it impossible for one individual doctor to provide all the needed healthcare of his patients. Early proponents of this practice model saw the wisdom of bringing the different specialists together to provide a more comprehensive healthcare to patients. One of the founders of The Eye City-Iloilo, Dr. Nathaniel Chan, having trained in the United States for his fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, experienced the advantage of this kind of practice and decided to invite fellow subspecialists in the field. It was not easy bringing together four different ophthalmologists from different backgrounds into a single entity. The process took more than a year to finish. Exploratory talks led to formal negotiations and finally in September of 2009 The Eye-City Iloilo was born. The practice started with eleven employees and three branches and today it has steadily grown into four branches with fifteen employees.
